Introduction to slow-release deoxidizers

The LF furnace achieves the effects of deoxygenation, desulfurization, and removal of impurities through arc heating, bottom blowing stirring, and white slag production, which is an important link in achieving many refining functions of the LF furnace. Therefore, people have been searching for deoxidizers that can quickly, effectively, and with low consumption for slag deoxygenation. Commonly used deoxidizers include C, Si, AL, Ba, etc. Under normal pressure, deoxygenation of C is slow, Ba utilization rate is too low, and Si deoxygenation ability is poor and increases [Si]. Only AL has strong deoxygenation ability and fast speed, and is widely used. However, AL usually needs to be processed into fine chips before use. This method has two drawbacks:

1. Under high temperature furnace gas and negative pressure dust removal conditions, the combustion loss of aluminum powder is high.

2. Aluminum powder is unevenly added to the top slag and debris, resulting in aluminum enrichment, severe silicon and phosphorus recovery, and easy increase in AL. We have developed two types of slow-release deoxidizers for this purpose, which have been used by multiple steel companies and have achieved good results.

① Quickly foaming the slag, forming submerged arc slag, and shortening the foaming and submerged arc time of the slag;

② Uniformly and continuously melt and release aluminum to deoxygenate the slag;

③ The composition of slag after slag formation has a good ability to capture and adsorb inclusions in steel.

The main function of slow-release deoxidizer is to achieve deep deoxidation in slag making, in order to achieve better desulfurization effect and purification effect on steel liquid. The main function of weakly slow-release deoxidizer is to make slag and bury arc, meeting the needs of electric heating and burying arc. At the same time, it has a certain deoxygenation effect on the slag to improve the yield of aluminum and other alloys.
